How to Eat Out and Lose Weight

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Arnel Ricafranca Diners have become more health-conscious the last few years, and now want healthy choices whether eating at home or at their favorite restaurants. Luckily, the restaurant industry has been quick to accommodate the demand, so you’ll find you have many options to “eat healthy” these days. Whether you’re eating at home or dining out, the same rules for watching your weight apply. You need to eat more vegetables, fruit and whole grains. Choose smaller portions of lean meats, fish and poultry. Eat a variety of foods, and fresh, raw foods are better. Cut back on salt, sugar, saturated fats and alcohol. Drink plenty of water, and include exercise every day as part of your daily lifestyle choice. So whether you’re having lunch with the gang, or enjoying a romantic dinner for two, you can enjoy delicious-tasting foods that are low-in calories and good for you, with just a little forethought and planning. Here are some easy tips to remember when ordering out that will help you to lose weight even when eating at your favorite restaurants: 1. If you know the menu from the restaurant you’re going to, plan what you’re going to have ahead of time. This will help save you from making a last minute decision that could result in high-calorie choices. 2. Drink at least one full-glass of water or iced tea before eating your meal. This helps your digestive process, and, because you’ll feel full sooner, you will eat less. 3. Don’t be afraid to ask for the “senior citizen” special or kid’s-sized portions. Most restaurants will accommodate you — and often you’ll pay less as well! 4. Order first. That way you’re much less likely to be influenced by the choices of your companions. 5. If you’re not sure how something is prepared, don’t be afraid to ask. And if the dish is cooked in oil or butter, you can always ask if they have a “fat free” option. 6. If everything on the menu is high in fat or calories, ask if the chef could prepare a plate of fresh fruit and vegetables. Many restaurants offer a vegetarian selection, so if you don’t see it on the menu, ask. 7. When ordering meat or fish, ask that it be grilled or broiled, and prepared without oil or butter. (When you eat it, use lemon or herbs and spices to give it flavor rather than heavy sauces). 8. Order an appetizer and a salad as your meal. Or a soup and salad. For dessert, choose fresh fruit. 9. When choosing soup, remember that cream-based soups have many more calories than broth-based ones. 10. If you’re having a full meal, split the appetizer and desert with your companion. 11. If you decide to order pasta, tomato sauce has fewer calories than cream-based sauces, just like soup. 12. Choose breadsticks over bread, or if you eat bread, don’t add butter. Stay away from muffins and croissants, and choose whole grain over white. 13. Choose steamed vegetables instead of baked potatoes or other starches. Again, use lemon and herbs and spices rather than butter to flavor them with. 14. Whenever possible, eat like the Europeans do, and have your biggest meal at lunchtime. Not only will you save money, but you’ll cut down on calories at the same time! 15. Take the time to enjoy your meal. Savor the flavors and textures of your food, and enjoy the company you’re with. When you eat slowly, you give your body’s internal clock the time it needs to know when you’ve had enough. When you’re full, stop eating. Ask your server to remove your plate so you’re not tempted to keep eating while you wait for your companion to finish. 16. Ask for salsa on your baked potatoes, rather than sour cream and butter. Not only is salsa much lower in calories, but it adds a “spicy” flavor to potatoes. 17. Order salad dressings and sauces “on the side.” This gives you more control of how much to use. Another tip for salad dressing — rather than pouring the salad dressing on your salad, dip your fork into the dressing first, and then into the salad. You’ll get the same amount of flavor, without all the added calories! 18. Choose brown rice over white rice (or french fries), whole grain breads and rolls over white. Not only are they lower in calories, but they are better for you. 19. Stay away from “all you can eat” buffets and salad bars. It’s too easy to lose track of the amount of food you’re eating, even when it’s salads. If that’s your only choice, then stay away from the pasta, marinated salads, cheeses and fruit salads with whipped cream. Stick to soups, raw vegetables and fresh fruits. 20. Have your soup first. It will help to fill you up, and most soups have fewer calories. 21. If you’re craving something sweet, and don’t want fresh fruit, choose sorbet. If you absolutely HAVE to have the chocolate sauce, use the same trick as you did with the salad dressing — dip your fork into it first, then your dessert. 22. Split your dessert with your companion. You’ll still feel like you got to be indulgent, and you’ll only have to exercise half as long to burn off the extra calories! 23. When ordering sandwiches, order them with mustard only, rather than mayonnaise. Not only does mustard have almost no calories, but you won’t miss the mayo! 24. If the portion you were served is large, only eat half of it. Take the other half home. Not only will you get two meals for the price of one, but you’ll cut the calories in half as well! 25. Go for a walk after eating. Stroll along the beach, walk through a park, visit a zoo. You’ll burn calories and get your exercise at the same time! Placenta of Attraction

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Debra Tan In the 2004 movie, Three Extremes, Chinese actress Bai Ling raised eyebrows playing an unlicensed midwife who makes dumplings out of aborted foetus and placentas. She sold them to rich women who believed that consuming them would reverse the signs of aging. Although Bai herself claims to be disgusted by the idea of eating placentas, there are rumours aplenty of other celebrities who do it in the hope of improving their health by regaining a youthful complexion. Singaporean actor Andew Seow,36, for one, has been waiting for years to get his hands in a placenta. He said “I have seen people who have taken it, and I believe it works.” He says he has heard stories that youthful looking Taiwanese actress Lin Ching-hsia, 53, was taught by her mother to “slice it and eat it with porridge”. Then there is another un-named actress, who, after giving birth, had “super skin, a super chest and a super butt” because she is known to have eaten the organ which is “full of amino acids and proteins”, he says. Despite being vegetarian, Seow does not baulk at the thought of consuming something which, when raw, resembles a slimy, bloody liver. “A placenta”, he says, “naturally comes out with the baby, if it is not used, it is just wasted.” Origins of Species A placenta is an organ rich in blood vessels that develops in female mammals during pregnancy. It lines the uterine wall and partially envelopes the foetus, to which it is attached by the umbilical cord. At full term, it is about 18 cm long and 5 cm thick. It is expelled during child birth, forming part of the after birth. Its function is to transfer oxygen and nutrients from mother to the foetus. It also releases carbon dioxide and waste from the foetus through the umbilical cord to be disposed by of the mother. Dr Peter Chew, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, says that though people have been talking about “frying, drying and eating placentas” for years, his patients rarely ask to keep theirs. He says: “Placenta are full of hormones, so theoretically, they should improve the complexion, even though there’s no medical evidence to support this.” As for the possibility of dangerous side effect from consuming it, he says “there’s no harm, seeing it’s your own body’s organ.” But to be on the safe side, he recommends cooking the placenta before consumption. Dr Douglas Ong, an obstetrician-gynaecologist, says KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) “used to have a placenta fridge whose contents were sold to cosmetic companies”. KKH is unable to verify his claims but a spokesman says that if it existed, it would probably have been “a long, long time ago”. Dr Ong claims the practice stopped after ‘HIV and other viruses came on the scene”. He is uneasy about mothers consuming their placenta, terming it “borderline cannibalism”. He says: “Women will go to great lengths for beauty but there are other ways to achieve good skin.” Life Force Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) experts claim the human placenta has been eaten by the Chinese for 2500 years. Dr Low Chai Ling, a medical director at an established medical institution, says “the Chinese believe it contains “qi” (Chinese for life force) and use it as a remedy for a whole range of problems such as lethargy, rejuvenating ageing skin and promoting breast milk production”. In Singapore, human placenta from China is readily available in a dried form from Chinese medical halls. Professor Xu Yi Jun, a physician from a renowned TCM Center, prescribes consuming 2g to 3g of powdered placenta daily to increase fertility and blood circulation and to make the body more resistant to disease. You can also find it commonly used in beauty salons in various forms. In a certain beauty salon in Mandarin Hotel Shopping Arcade, it offers a health tonic, facial essence and hair tonic said to contain human placenta. Another major spa chain touts its placenta facial that uses sheep placenta as “an alternative to Botox”. According to a spokesperson for the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), “placenta from both human and animal origin is currently allowed in cosmetic products”. However, “dealers of eye and dental products are required to provide supporting evidence of safety”. But as facial creams and face masks are considered “low risk” products, they are not subject to HSA approval. The Food Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States classifies animal extract from organs such as placenta as potentially dangerous. Out of 12 doctors spoke to, only two admitted to prescribing placenta extract treatments, although one does not administer injections. While most doctors avoided commenting on placenta and its supposed cosmetic merits, five, including Dr Chua Jun Jin, a consultant plastic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Medical Center, agree that there is not enough medical evidence to show that it works. Comparing placenta therapy to birds’ nest and snake oil, Dr Chua says: “some people may swear by it, but if it was such a potent ingredient, there would be people studying it in great depth.” One doctor, who prefers to remain unnamed for fear of backlash from other doctors, admits to injecting human placenta essence by request in small quantities on the face and body. But “the patient has to bring in her own supply”. He also has not seen any adverse side effect as a result. He believes the only reason the treatment is controversial is not because it is dangerous, but because “it was not taught in medical school, but simply evolved with the practice of medicine”. Dr Wong Yok Meng, who specialises in detoxification and preventive medicine against ageing, has been prescribing human placenta treatments for the past 10 years. Although he says he does not inject placenta extracts directly into the body, he prescribes topical and oral human placenta extract treatments to rejuvenate the skin of his patients, most of whom are female and aged above 40. He observes that the treatment “does not get rid of wrinkles, but helps to give skin a youthful look by smoothening fine lines and increasing cell renewal”. A month’s dosage of oral placenta extract costs around S$500, while a topical solution for the face costs around S$100. Dr Wong says he has not seen any negative effects in any of his patients. But one concern Dr Joyce Lim, a renowned dermatologist, has with the use of placenta extract in injections and medicines is that it involves “the transmission of genetic material and may cause allergies”. Indeed, in a case reported by Yomiuri Shubun paper last January, a Japanese woman in her 40s developed acute liver disease after being injected with human placenta essence at a Tokyo beauty center. Perhaps, the next time before you consider consuming this unusual delicacy, do stop and think whether it is worth risking your health all in the name of beauty. My First Colon Cleanse

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Terry Trevor My interest in colon cleansing began after reading a book by N.W. Walker. Mr. Walker is believed to be the father of juicing (not steroids, but rather fruits and vegetables) and it is also rumored that he lived to be around 120 years old. After reading his book sometime ago I found a colon therapist and had twelve sessions over a two month period. The process involved laying on a table in the fetal position while the therapist inserts a plastic tube up your butt. Once secured you roll over gently so as not to push out the plastic probe and purified water is pumped into your colon. The sensation is a bit weird as the pressure builds and a bit uncomfortable until such time when the pumping is stopped and the pressure built inside your colon is released (along with some other stuff). I must admit the process is a bit surreal. I was laying on a table with my knees bent, a clear plastic tube connected to my backdoor and I could see all the stuff coming out and going through another larger clear tube that was illuminated for easier inspection of the floating material. The therapist massaged my colon by pressing, pushing and pulling on my lower abdominal area to encourage the release of the toxic colon build-up. When the output began to decrease the therapist pumped more water in increasing the pressure to a slightly uncomfortable level then stopped pumping and the pressure was released through the exit tube. This process was repeated about three times each session. Each visit was about 45 minutes to an hour in length. After the tube was removed I would sit on the toilet for a couple of minutes to evacuate any remaining water etc. The therapist mentioned to me after my initial visit that I may experience some fatigue the following day and man was she right! I was exhausted! All I wanted to do was sleep. Apparently, cleaning your colon out is taxing on the body. I didnt experience any fatigue after the subsequent visits and Im assuming the reason for this was because my body wasnt having to remove as much toxic build-up as the first time. Some people describe a feeling of being lighter after a colon cleansing and I never really felt that, but some interesting things did happened to me though. After the second session I developed a small reddish rash on my stomach and mentioned this to my therapist. She explained that it was probably my body removing toxins that had been dormant in my colon. It wasnt bothering me and I liked the idea that I was riding myself of the evil toxins so I didnt worry about it. Over the course of the next week the rash had progressed to the undersides of my arms, midsection, and groin area. These rashes were very pronounced (raised) in the morning and dissipated during the course of the day so by bed time they were very faint and flat. This went on for weeks and with each passing week the rashes/hives became less noticeable until totally vanishing. Im not allergic to anything and never had rashes/hives before so I believe my outbreak was a direct result of the colon cleanse therapy. Im happy to report that I havent had an outbreak since. Another thing that happened to me was about midway through my twelve sessions I developed a distaste for red meat! Ive always been a meat eater and one of my favorite subs is a cornbeef sub. It was the weirdest thing! I first noticed that after I ate the cornbeef sub that I would feel nauseous for hours after eating it. Then it got to the point that when I thought about eating it I would feel sick. To this day I cannot eat red meat without feeling nauseous. I cant even look at hamburger meat now! I am, however, able to eat turkey and chicken so I dont know why I have issues with red meat. I mentioned this to my therapist and she believed it was my body telling me that it didnt want the meat because it was harmful. The analogy I would make to this would be someone who had smoked for a long period of time, quit for years, let their body get healthy, and then started smoking again. Well, thats my first experience with colon cleansing and I would say it was fairly successful. Did I feel a lot better or healthier because of it? A little. Would I recommend this to a family member or friend? Absolutely! Although my experience wasnt stellar I definitely believe having a clean and healthy colon is the foundation to build your health upon. Remember death begins in the colon! Do You Suffer From Arthritis? Food Allergies May Be to Blame

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Aldene Fredenburg If you have joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis, relief may be closer than you think. Many people see rheumatoid arthritis as a disease of aging, while others believe it runs in the family. But often, arthritis symptoms can flare as a result of food allergies. Nightshades in particular are well known to cause flare-ups of arthritis pain. Potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini, peppers and eggplants are among the foods that can trigger an allergic reaction causing joint pain and swelling. Luckily, theres an easy way to find out if this family of plant foods is problematic for you. If you have arthritis pain, finding out whether your symptoms are due to food allergies is a simple process. First, avoid all nightshades for several daysat least four. Then, add one particular food itempotatoes, for instanceback into your diet. Eat a portion daily for several days and note any symptoms. Then eliminate all nightshades for another few days, and test another of the foods. You may be surprised by the results. You may find that you can tolerate one particular food for several days before developing symptoms, while another food will cause symptoms almost immediately. Once youve analyzed the results, you can plan to either avoid certain foods completely or control the portions and frequency of these foods in your diet. If you are taking prescription medication for your arthritis, be sure you discuss your results and ask questions of your physician before stopping any meds; they may have positive results beyond pain relief, and stopping them cold may have a negative effect. Also, be sure to monitor your condition with your physician, even if you manage to control the symptoms with diet. Arthritis is a complex auto-immune disease, and bears watching, whether youre symptom-free or not. Aldene Fredenburg is a freelance writer living in southwestern New Hampshire. All About Rose Petals: Information, Tips, and Suggestions on Using Rose Petals for Your Wedding

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Erica Tevis When shopping for rose petals you first need to decide whether you would like to use fresh, freeze dried or silk. What you plan on using rose petals for will help you decide on which type is more appropriate for your wedding needs. For Outdoor use: Fresh or Freeze dried are more appropriate as they are a natural, biodegradable product. For Indoor use: Freeze Dried or Silk rose petals are more appropriate. Fresh petals can stain or be slippery. You don’t want to slip when you walk down that aisle! Flower Girl use: any type will do, since they do not need a large amount and the rose petals will not be closely examined by your guests. However, keep in mind that indoor use of fresh rose petals even in small amounts can be slippery! Table Decoration: freeze dried petals are the real thing only preserved at the peak of their freshness. They look more realistic, but also are more costly. Silk petals can give the look of rose petals at a fraction of the cost. Tossing at Church or after the Ceremony: again, if it is outdoors use fresh or freeze dried, as they are degradable. Indoors, silk would be appropriate. Now that you know where you plan on using your rose petals, lets discuss the three different types, as you can use more than one type in several areas. Fresh Rose Petals: the most expensive of the three types, not only because they are fresh but because the roses will have to be de-petaled at the time just before use. They are all natural and biodegradable which is a good thing! However, because they are bio-degradable, they will degrade fast - sometimes so fast they often do not look good by the time they are used. Must be obtained the day needed, sometimes just before use. Another disadvantage is that fresh rose petals can stain and be slippery. Freeze Dried Rose Petals: not as expensive as fresh but more expensive than silk, freeze dried gives brides a long lasting alternative to fresh with the look and feel of fresh petals (after all they are real petals!). Freeze dried petals can be ordered and received several weeks before the wedding, avoiding the last minute stress for the bride. Freeze dried petals are preserved at the peak of their freshness for excellent quality when they time comes to use them. Silk Rose Petals: often the least expensive of the three options, silk rose petals are wonderful for indoor use. They work well when large quantities are needed for indoor pathways or table decorations. If you plan on purchasing silk rose petals try and ask for a sample first from the retailer if you can’t see them in person. There are many websites out there which offer cheap silk petals - but if they are cheap, they more than likely will look cheap, feel thin, be all the same size or even be almost transparent. Don’t waste your money on poor quality silk rose petals. Quality silk rose should vary in size - after all real rose petals vary in size too! Quality rose petals should not be transparent, but should be made of a microfiber peach silk, giving them the texture and the weight of real rose petals. Now that you have decided where and what type of petals you will be using, you need to know how much you need! Here are our recommendations: For Silk Rose Petals Tossing: 100 petals per 6 to 8 guests Table Decoration: 100 petals per 1 to 2 tables with centerpiece Aisle: 100 petals will cover: 1 square foot (dense), 2 square feet (moderate coverage) or 5 square feet (light coverage, like a scattering of petals) Flower Girl: 100 to 200 petals depending on how she tosses them and how long the aisle is. For Real or Freeze Dried Rose Petals Quantities can vary but on average there are 25-35 petals per cup (like a measuring cup) of real or freeze dried rose petals. SInce real and freeze dried rose petals can vary in size, the actual petals per cup can vary. Tossing: 1/3 to 1/2 cup per guest Table Decoration: 2 to 4 cups per table with centerpiece (depends on how dense you want it to be) Aisle: 8 cups per square foot (dense), 4 cups per square foot (moderate coverage), 2 cups per square foot (light coverage), 1 cup per square foot (scattered look) Flower Girl: 4 to 8 cups How to Use Freeze Dried Petals Using freeze dried petals at your wedding does take some minor prep work to make them useable. The easiest way to soften them is to place them in the bathroom while taking a shower. While they do not become as soft as a fresh petal (so don’t expect that) they do soften and become more pliable. The longer the petals are exposed to moisture, the softer they will get. If the outside air humidity is normal to humid, this process can take a few days to achieve the softening. If the outside air (the air in your home) is dry then the petals can dry out again if you attempt to soften them too long before your wedding. Softening petals by exposure to moist air will also brighten darker colored petals. We recommend shipping your petals with 2 to 4 weeks before your event for the best quality. Don’t purchase freeze dried petals months ahead of time just “because”. Many colors will fade over time, especially when exposed to light and humidity Erica Tevis is the owner of Two Hearts Wedding Favors http://www.twoheartsfavors.com which carries over 50 different colors of silk rose petals. When You’re Looking For a Mate Don’t Put Your Life On Hold

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By Royane Real Are you looking for a mate? If you are currently single and lonely, you may care little for learning techniques to boost your self-esteem or to expand your circle of friends. Your primary concern is how to meet your special soul mate, and soon. You may be wondering if you need to learn different techniques to find and win a mate than those you would use to meet and make friends. Should you be concentrating your efforts on making friends? Or should all your social efforts be focused on your search for that special someone? If we have been lonely for a long time, we may dream that our special someone will come along and we will never feel lonely again. We may spend a lot of time imagining what our life will be like once we find this special person. We are sure that we will have a wonderful closeness with this person. That we will never disagree. That all we will ever want to do is to make our partner happy. People who dont like themselves think they will be healed when someone else decides to love them. The truth is, if we dont love and respect ourselves now, we have a very good chance of settling for a mate who wont love or respect us either. If we havent learned how to get along with the friends we already have and learned to handle being close to them, we wont know how to get along with and be close to someone just because we have married them. Have you put your life on hold while you wait to meet your ideal mate? Sometimes very lonely people believe their real life wont start until they meet and marry their one true love. This belief is a fallacy. Your real life is going by right now, whether you are married or not. A single life is just as real as married life. An inability to be happy while you are single will most likely continue when you are married. If you have had trouble developing a sense of identity, or self-esteem, or if you have difficulty expressing your needs and standing up for yourself in your single life, this will not automatically change once you are married. Successful long-term relationships are built on the foundation of many interpersonal skills, and these skills are developed through practice. In the course of our relationships with other people we learn many important lessons. We learn about handling disagreements and disappointments, we learn about balancing independence and closeness, how to handle conflict, and how and when to compromise. These skills are built up in all the many relationships and encounters we have throughout our entire lives, with our relatives, our friends, with acquaintances and strangers. No matter how wonderfully dazzling a romantic relationship is in the first stages of falling in love, sooner or later you will run into situations where you will have to handle some difficult and painful emotional situations with your partner. If you have not been able to successfully employ these personal skills in your friendships, you will find it even more difficult to do it in an emotional relationship where your feelings are far more intense, and the stakes are much higher. There are many valid reasons for continuing to meet new people and make new friends even while you intensely long for a soul mate. After all, you might meet your soul mate as a result of the friends you already have, or those friends you make in the future. The person you fall in love with might be the brother or sister, or college room-mate of someone you already know. Even if you do meet your special someone you will continue to need other friends and social outlets. No matter how happy your relationship is, one person can never meet all of your social needs. You will be renewed and refreshed by having other close friends in your life. Natural Solutions for Ulcerative Colitis

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Farah Khan Ulcerative colitis is a serious condition involving inflammation, ulceration, and bleeding of the colon. It is considered to be an auto-immune condition for which conventional medicine has no cure. The person is generally given steroids and other drugs to control flare-ups and bleeding. The only cure conventional medicine has is to remove a persons colon. This disease can either be minor with occasional flare-ups, or debilitating and severe. The internal bleeding can cause severe anemia. The diarrhea can cause a loss of fluids and electrolytes. The pain from intestinal spasms can be extreme. It can get to the point that a person does not want to eat for fear of the pain and the problems they have due to ulcerative colitis. There are a number of natural ways to manage and control ulcerative colitis, and even potentially put the disease into remission. First of all, there are methods of modulating the immune system and reducing its tendency to create inflammation without the use of steroids. Steroids can have numerous side effects, especially used long term for a chronic condition like this. They can cause bone loss, water retention, severe insomnia, psychosis (means you go crazy), and impairment of organs. Researchers are also looking into the possibility that the euphoric high some people get from steroids like prednisone may cause psychological dependency. A number of essential fatty acids and enzymes can reduce the inflammatory response of the immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish oil and in flaxseed oil. This has been shown to be beneficial for people with all sorts of auto-immune conditions including ulcerative colitis. Another fatty acid is called cetyl-myristolate, also called CMO. CMO has been used successfully to treat a number of auto-immune conditions, including ulcerative colitis. One enzyme that seems promising for the treatment of ulcerative colitis is serrapeptase. Serrapeptase is excellent for managing the pain and reducing inflammation in the colon, and in other areas of the body. Certain vitamins are helpful for ulcerative colitis. Highest on the list is vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to regulate the immune systems response and reduce inflammation. Sublingual B-vitamin complex can also be beneficial. The B-vitamins can aid the nervous system, reducing a negative response to stress, which is often the source of peoples flare-ups. Pectin and liquid soluble fiber have been shown to be useful in controlling ulcerative colitis, and preventing flare-ups. Many people have found that colloidal silver, taken regularly, can put their ulcerative colitis in remission. The long chain mucilaginous polysaccharides found in aloe vera gel, made from the inner leaf of the aloe vera plant, can heal the damage and the ulcerations formed in the colon during a flare-up of ulcerative colitis. The Chinese herbal formula, Jianpiling, has been used on over 10,000 people in China with ulcerative colitis. It has been shown to put 66% of cases into remission within 3 months of taking the formula. Some people needed to take the formula again a year later to go back into remission, but the majority still had no flare-ups one year after the study. When examined via colonoscopy, erosions, mucous accumulation, and bleeding spots were shown to be eliminated in 90% of patients. A Chinese herbal remedy that has been commonly used for all sorts of internal bleeding has been shown to help stop bleeding from ulcerative colitis as well. This formula is called Yunnan Paiyao. It contains pseudoginseng, which has hemostatic properties. Other Chinese herbs used to stop bleeding from ulcerative colitis include mume and sanguisorba. If a person does take corticosteroids to control ulcerative colitis, they can reduce the dosage they take by also taking licorice root. Licorice root has components that are similar to cortisol. As a result, taking the root magnifies the effects of corticosteroids, making it possible to get similar effects from a smaller dosage. If you take this route, be sure to work with your physician to wean yourself to lower dosages slowly. As you can see, there are many natural methods of managing ulcerative colitis. All natural remedies require consistency over time to see the best results, since they are generally milder than chemical drugs. Natural approaches also work best if you work on your health in between flare-ups and don’t wait for the situation to become extreme before addressing it. If you are ready to be diligent and take charge of your own health, then the natural route to treating ulcerative colitis may be the best option for you. Internet Marketing Made Easy Part 2

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By Adam Boulton Welcome to Part 2 of Internet Marketing Made Easy. In the previous issue, we introduced internet marketing and the pitfalls many people face when trying to start their online businesses. In this issue, we will broadly go over the benefits of using the internet to boost your existing business or starting your own. For the most part, most people would agree that starting a new business online is a better way to generate income than venturing offline. And I would have to agree with them. Every day there are millions of new members joining the internet. Millions of new prospects, leads, or customers. Imagine the possibilities! Here are some of the many benefits that marketing on the internet provides. A. Instead of reaching only local customers (brick & mortar), your world is the audience. Anyone who logs onto the internet is a potential customer, you just need to know how to reach them. B. Most internet businesses are automated. Successful internet marketers claim they make money while they sleep. This is what Im talking about. You can make money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once your product or service is set up on your website, anyone at anytime can purchase it, even at 4am. C. Most people, including myself, hate face-to-face selling. The internet gives you the opportunity to sell your product or service, without the hassle of direct sales. D. Your earning potential with the internet is literally unlimited. For example: If you get a degree, such as a trade skill, your earnings are limited to what that field generally pays. But by setting up a business or multiple businesses online, your earning potential has no limit. The fact of the matter is more and more consumers are using the internet for their shopping needs. This makes it very hard to ignore putting your business on the internet, or starting anew. Ecommerce is at an all time high, and if you make your mark on the world wide web, your bound to succeed. Heres to your success! Learn how I make thousands of dollars every day on the internet.
